Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA)
Includes national and local institutions from the United States and Canada working in film and television preservation. AMIA’s Education Committee implements educational programs, projects, and services that contribute to the continuing education and training of archivists and that increase the education of students pursuing the field of moving image archiving. Publishes the quarterly AMIA Newsletter.

Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC)
Association of recorded sound collectors, both private and institutional, librarians, archivists, sound engineers, discographers, and historians dealing with the collecting, preservation, documentation, cataloging, digitization and accessing of sound recordings. Publishes a journal and newsletter. Journal includes reviews and articles dealing with every aspect of recorded sound research. The Education and Training Committee gives annual pre-conference workshops in various aspects of audio archiving.

Co-ordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA)
Represents the interests of worldwide professional archive organizations with interests in audiovisual materials. Grammy Foundation, Los Angeles Chapter
The GRAMMY Foundation's archiving and preservation initiatives are designed to raise public awareness of the urgent need to preserve our nation's recorded sound legacy. This is achieved by providing funds to entities engaged in preservation work, advocacy work on legislative issues, the development of information resources, and other projects that promote preservation of our nation's vast recorded sound heritage. The Foundation works in partnership with the National Academy of Recorded Arts & Sciences (NARAS) and its regional offices to bring national attention to important issues such as the value and impact of music and arts education and the urgency of preserving our recorded legacy.

International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA)
Established in 1969 to function as a medium for international co-operation between archives that preserve recorded sound and audiovisual documents. IASA supports the exchange of information between audiovisual archives in many areas including preservation and conservation, and has members from more than 60 countries. IASA members provide training on audiovisual preservation, digitization, and care and handling of audiovisual materials. IASA publishes a peer-reviewed journal that covers international audiovisual archive issues, the IASA Journal.

International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF)
Publishes technical manuals and scientific information related to the storage, preservation and restoration of film and associated sound recordings. The FIAF Summer School for moving image archivists was last held in 2002. Local workshops sponsored by FIAF have been held most recently in Nicaragua. Their main periodical Journal of Film Preservation is published twice a year.

International Federation of Television Archives (FIAT)
Acts as a forum for media archive experts including setting standards and facilitating training opportunities. Interested in sharing information regarding automatic shelving and retrieval systems as well as the restoration and transfer of video and film recordings to modern formats. Offers various workshops and seminars around the world. FIAT also runs an International Summer School jointly with FOCAL International, a federation of commercial AV libraries.

Southeast Asia-Pacific Audiovisual Archives Association (SEAPAVAA)
The association aims to provide a regional forum for addressing common issues and concerns related to the collection and preservation of, and provision of access to, the audiovisual heritage of member countries. UNESCO has supported week-long training workshops held in various countries throughout the Southeast region. ASEAN/COCI “scholarships” have supported local participation in the Charles Sturt University course.

Audio Engineering Society (AES)
The Audio Engineering Society is the only professional society devoted exclusively to audio technology. Founded in the United States in 1948, the AES has grown to become an international organization that unites audio engineers, creative artists, scientists and students worldwide by promoting advances in audio and disseminating new knowledge and research.

The Society of American Archivists offers various professional workshops around the country. Workshops have included: “Preservation Management of Machine-Based Audiovisual Collections” (co-sponsored with Yale University Archives), “Encoded Archival Description,” and “Archival Perspectives on Digital Preservation.” These workshops are not given every year. The Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (CCAHA)

UCLA's Department of Film and Television and Department of Information Studies offer the Moving Image Archive Studies program. This Master of Arts degree program, is an intensive two-year course of study, consisting of specialized seminars, directed studies, an extensive internships program, screenings, guest lectures and technical demonstrations. UCLA’s Department of Ethnomusicology offers Audiovisual Archiving in the 21st Century. Lyrasis was created in 2009 by the merger of PALINET and SOLINET. Solinet offers a regular program of workshops devoted to preservation issues. Simmons College, Graduate School of Library and Information Science in Boston offers two courses of interest. "Music Librarianship" covers, among other topics, the principles and techniques of storage and dissemination of music materials. "Archiving and Preserving Digital Media" focuses on archiving and preserving a wide variety of digital media (primarily text, image, sound, moving images, and web sites) as well as thinking in a long-term way about overcoming the many challenges. Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) offers a variety of workshops, webinars, and presentations each year. In addition, NEDCC presents one or more preservation conferences each year. The Sibley Music Library at the Eastman School of Music holds an annual summer Music Preservation Workshop.
