This workshop is for anyone looking to build a space for audio preservation, either from the ground up or remodeling an existing work area. The first portion covers essential design considerations for the space (acoustics, lighting, grounding, ergonomics). Then, workshop leaders share their experiences in setting priorities according to their needs, creating and maintaining a realistic budget, vendor selection, and equipment/supplies acquisition. The afternoon is a roundtable session in which all participants are invited to bring their existing plans or sketch new ones and receive guidance and feedback from the leaders and other attendees. After the conference, each registrant receives a link to a downloadable Resource Guide that contains a workshop summary and lists of tools and potential contractors and suppliers to reference as they begin their projects.

Workshop leaders: Aaron Bittel (Wesleyan University), Dan Figurelli (Indiana University), Rob Friedrich (Library of Congress), Dan Hockstein (Library of Congress), Curtis Peoples (Ross Ragland Theater and Cultural Center) and Kelly Pribble (Iron Mountain Media & Archival Services).
